Hello
About Me
My name is Lizanna Bondesson, and I am a History major at the University of Florida. Though I am currently in my senior year and am conducting and participating in several historical research projects, I actually entered UF in my freshman year as a Physics major! During that first semester, I took an Asian history course alongside my math and science classes as an elective, and found myself excited and deeply interested in the history research and writing process. After lots of thinking, I decided to switch majors and have never looked back.

My main research interests include Japanese imperialism, Pacific Cold War politics, and the lives of women, especially in early modern Japan and China. I enjoy thinking about issues of labor, race, gender, and class in my research, and how these categories are understood and utilized in the process of colonialism and imperialism. As I hope to pursue a Ph.D. in history, I have begun learning languages that will be relevant for my future research, including Japanese and Korean. Though I am still in the process of learning both languages, what experience I do have has already been useful in acquiring and analyzing primary sources for several history papers and projects. Just like with prior projects, I intend to put my language skills to use as I conduct research for the USP.
